Theme: Management and Evolution of IT in the Networked World

We invite you to submit your research papers to the Tenth INFORMS Conference on Information Systems and Technology to be held on November 12-13, 2005, preceding the Annual INFORMS Conference in New Orleans.
The role of IT in organizations has evolved from the execution of back-office transaction processing to enabling strategic-level decisions. The rapid growth of new types of IT including wireless communications, mobile commerce, and supply chain collaboration software, has enabled firms to create new types of disruptive business models that transcend organizational boundaries. Firms can tap software development expertise and leverage these resources globally by using inter-organizational systems to connect employees with customers, suppliers and business partners. New peer-to-peer technologies has led to the formation of content-driven networks, where social norms for joining and contributing content provide interesting challenges for collaborative research.
Technology evolution has also given rise to new challenges that frustrate both researchers and practitioners. For example, information overload has created data management problems for firms while the analysis of very large datasets is forcing researchers to look beyond the bounds of inferential statistics. Privacy, security and trust issues have grown in importance. Recent legislation (e.g., Sarbanes-Oxley) is also beginning to impact IT infrastructure deployment. Other issues to ponder include: can we measure the impact of business process outsourcing? What new business models are created by the evolution of outsourcing of high-end business processes such as research and development? What are the governance and IT risk management issues for these new business models? The goal of this conference is to draw interesting research perspectives on these and other related topics as well as to engage practitioners in this dialogue. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
