The 2007 INFORMS Prize for the Teahcing of OR/MS Practice is awarded to Paul A. Jensen.
Paul Jensen’s 39 year teaching career at the University of Texas has been dedicated to teaching the practice of Operations Research through an emphasis on modeling and solving practical problems. In the dawning age of personal computers, Dr. Jensen published the first compendium of O.R. computer programs specifically adapted for microcomputers. He focused on modeling and making solution algorithms readily available to both students and practitioners.
In recent years, Paul Jensen has turned to the Internet for sharing his experience and the Excel-based computational tools he has developed. His web site, originally created to support the text Operations Research Models and Methods, has grown well beyond the text in supporting the goals of O.R. education and practice. More than 100,000 individuals from all over the world have visited this site with testimonials from dozens of students and practitioners attesting to its usefulness.
Paul Jensen’s entire career has been dedicated to making O.R. models and methods easily accessible to both students and practitioners. We are delighted to recognize his efforts through the award of the 2007 INFORMS Prize for the Teaching of the Practice of OR/MS.
