INFORMS Names 2023 Fellows

12 members to be inducted in October for outstanding lifetime accomplishments and contributions in operations research and analytics

BALTIMORE, MD, October 4, 2023 – INFORMS, the largest association for the decision and data sciences, has officially named 12 outstanding members as Fellows, one of the highest honors in the operations research (O.R.) profession. The 2023 INFORMS Fellows will be inducted during the 2023 INFORMS Annual Meeting, Oct. 15-18, which will be held in Phoenix, Arizona. INFORMS Fellows are honored for their outstanding lifetime accomplishments and contributions in O.R. and analytics.

2023 INFORMS Honorary Fellows

  •  M. Selim Aktürk is a professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Bilkent University. He is honored for exceptional leadership in the development of industrial engineering and operations         research in Turkey; longstanding teaching and mentorship of future scholars; and research contributions on airline disruption management.
  • Maged Dessouky is a Dean's Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Southern California. He is being honored for contributions in transportation, logistics, operations research and management science; sustained academic and professional leadership; and dedicated service in these area
  • Ozlem Ergun is a College of Engineering Distinguished Professor and the associate chair for Graduate Affairs in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Northeastern University. She is honored for the application of O.R. methods to humanitarian and health systems, emergency response, and transportation and logistics problems; and establishing a community of O.R. professionals with interest in public programs.
  • Arnold Greenland is a retired Distinguished Engineer at IBM Corporation and retired professor of the practice at the University of Maryland. He is being honored for leadership and impact on multiple projects applying operations research in industry, and sustained service to the INFORMS Practice community.
  • Simge Küçükyavuz is the chair and David A. and Karen Richards Sachs Professor of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science at Northwestern University. She is being honored for outstanding research in mixed-integer optimization and stochastic optimization as well as distinguished service to, and leadership in, the profession.
  • Andrea Lodi is an Andrew H. and Ann R. Tisch Professor in the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute at Cornell Tech and Technion – IIT. He is being honored for theoretical and computational contributions in discrete optimization, especially powerful primal heuristic methods to quickly find high-quality feasible solutions and breakthroughs in exploiting the dual side of integer programming.
  • Ranganath Nuggehalli, CAP, is a Principal Scientist at UPS. He is being honored for advancing and promoting the practice of operations research and management sciences and for sustained service to the INFORMS Practice community by enhancing collaboration between industry and academic O.R. professionals.
  • Ted Ralphs is a professor of industrial and systems engineering at Lehigh University. He is being honored for contributions to the field of discrete optimization, leadership in developing high-quality open-source software and service contributions to the operations research community.
  • Rhonda Righter is a professor and Ronald W. Wolff Chancellor’s Chair in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at UC Berkeley. She is being honored for research, education and professional leadership in the theory and application of stochastic modeling and control in manufacturing, service, telecommunication and computing systems.
  • J. Cole Smith is Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University. He is being honored for sustained leadership and service to INFORMS and the profession; impactful research in integer programming, network interdiction and multilevel optimization; and distinguished leadership in academia.  
  • Kwok-Leung Tsui is a professor in the Grado Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech. He is being honored for contributions to pioneering research in robust design and long-established research in data science with an impact on manufacturing and other industries, and for leadership in education and within the INFORMS community.
  • Peiling Wu-Smith is a manager, program lead and Technical Fellow with Enterprise Data, Analytics, and Insights at General Motors. She is being honored for advancing and applying O.R. at General Motors through broad and high-impact contributions to quantitative choice modeling in vehicle contenting, electric vehicle adoption, revenue management and future mobility alternatives; and promoting research collaboration with academia to mentor future O.R. professionals.
