USA Cycling Awarded the 2025 INFORMS Edelman Award for Data-Driven Olympic Gold Strategy

BALTIMORE, MD, April 7, 2025 – INFORMS, the world’s largest association for professionals and students in operations research (O.R.), AI, analytics and data science, announced it has awarded USA Cycling its 2025 Franz Edelman Award for Achievement in Advanced Analytics, Operations Research and Management Science, for its use of operations research (O.R.) and analytics in elite sports performance. With Project 4:05, USA Cycling transformed race strategy and athlete preparation, enabling the Women’s Team Pursuit to win gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

CATONSVILLE, MD, May 1, 2017 – Online user reviews have become an essential tool for consumers who increasingly rely on them to evaluate products and services before purchase. The business models of online review platforms such as Yelp and TripAdvisor, and e-commerce sites such as Amazon and Expedia critically depend on them. Should such sites pay users to encourage them to write reviews? According to a forthcoming study in the INFORMS journal Marketing Science, a leading academic marketing journal, that is a bad idea.

University of Montana students Brandon Staggs and David Brewer spent a week in Las Vegas, where they, err, did a lot of homework. Staggs and Brewer graduate in May as part of the first Master's of Science in Business Analytics cohort at UM. They're also part of the first UM team to attend the INFORMS Business Analytics conference in Vegas, where they interviewed with companies such as Amazon, GM Financial, Deloitte, and MGM Grand.

Whether you are attending a "give back" night at Chipotle or a special charity event at a local boutique, cause marketing campaigns seem like the perfect situation for all parties involved. However, a new study in the INFORMS journal of Marketing Science finds that the effects of cause marketing are more complicated than that.

Members of the Air Force Studies, Analysis and Assessments directorate joined leaders of the Walt Disney Company as co-awardees of the INFORMS Prize at a gala in Las Vegas, Nev., April 3, 2017, for their pioneering and enduring integration of operations research and analytics programs. The award is given each year by The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.

INFORMS a more than 12,000 member strong organization that promotes “best practices and advances in operations research, management science, and analytics” bases its awardees on their dedication to research pioneering. In this case, it was USAF’s Studies, Analysis and Assessments directorate which was recognized.
